You keep full copyright in everything you publish here. By publishing, you give NightStand a non-exclusive licence to display, format, and recommend your work inside the app and in previews of it. That licence ends for new display when you unpublish or delete a story.

We never sell your work, and we never submit it to a publisher without you choosing to send a Launch package.

Margin notes and replies are owned by the readers who wrote them. Writers can close margins on a chapter, but cannot edit a reader's words.

Your account email, profile, stories and chapters, margin notes, saves and passes, reading progress, and reading-habit totals. If you enter a legal name or contact email for publisher submissions, it is stored separately and never displayed publicly.

You can download everything we hold about you, or erase your account entirely, from settings.

Reading is free today. Writers are free permanently. In the future some popular titles may sit behind a reader subscription; anything you have already saved keeps its access terms clearly labelled before you're ever charged.

If you believe a story here infringes your copyright, report it with the ⋯ menu using “Stolen or plagiarised writing”, or contact us with the work, the infringing URL, and a statement that you own the rights. We remove infringing work and repeat infringers lose their accounts.

You can delete your account at any time from settings; it removes your stories, notes, and reading history. We can suspend accounts that break the community guidelines.
