Community guidelines
NightStand is a room full of people reading in the dark together. The margins only work if writers can post a first chapter without bracing for impact.
Welcome in the margins
- Honest reactions, including “this didn't land for me” and one-star opinions.
- Craft critique — pacing, dialogue, structure, the whole toolbox.
- Swearing. This is a novel app, not a classroom.
- Spoilers, as long as you mark them so readers can choose.
Held for review
- Threats of violence, including jokes shaped like threats.
- Telling someone to hurt themselves, in any phrasing.
- Posting or hinting at anyone's address, workplace, or legal name.
- All-caps pile-ons aimed at one person.
Removed, and often account-ending
- Slurs and dehumanising hate about who someone is.
- Sexual content involving minors, without exception.
- Coordinated harassment of a writer or reader.
- Plagiarism — publishing writing you don't have the rights to.
Pen names are protected
- Writers may publish under a pseudonym for as long as they like.
- Attempting to unmask a pen name is doxxing and is treated as such.
- Legal names given to us stay private and are never shown publicly.
How enforcement works
An automated filter blocks slurs before they post and holds threats and doxxing for a human. Anyone can report a note, reply, story, or profile with the ⋯ menu, and you can block an account at any time — blocked members disappear from your feed and margins. Reports go to a moderator queue; outcomes range from hiding a single note to removing an account.
